A really big thankyou to everyone that turned out for the event! Who's up for next year?

Survival...Or, How not to be a walking corpse.

Would you be ready in the event of a zombie apocalypse? Do you think you would be one of those infected early, or would you survive.
A quick straw poll of some council staff came up with the following advice:

• Throw tomato sauce all over you and scream "haha, you’re too late!"

• Peppermint tea spray instead of Pepper Spray. Spray it on the Zombies and give yourself enough time to get away (or maybe it would just make them smell nice).
• Hide in the cam...Den...or under my narellan vale or in the long greas(s)mere...(Ok, that has to be the worst dad joke I have ever heard and the person that submitted it should be ashamed)

Prepare yourselves.....

OK, so with two days left you still have time to do some preparation!!!!!!

We have been busy preparing some survival challenges for the day (with prizes for the winners)...so here's some clues to prepare yourselves:

• Check out the library website. Access to information is important!!

Think about foods you need to survive....frozen pizza might be great, but how do you cook it after the power stops working?

What would you do in the event of contaminated water? Do you know how to find more? What filtration methods would work?

Make Up Tips

My favourite part of any apocalypse is definitely the dressing up!  You want to look your best for the end of the world, and with these tips you can!

How to Look Like a Zombie : Check out this site for some awesome tips on how to get yourself looking like a realistic zombie (Includes clothes, hair styling and blood application!)

This tutorial is great as it uses makeup that many will have at home (warn your mum first if you are raiding her expensive stuff!)

OR.....come along to our makeup workshop on the morning of the walk, you'll get professional tips on how to create a realistic undead look!

1. What is your favourite zombie film/movie/comic/book and why: Favourite Zombie film is 28 days later because the zombies are fast moving and quickly incite panic as opposed to films with slow moving zombies. Also its a great atmosphere - post apocalyptic London has an extremely eerie feeling!! Probably the lack of weapons on the part of the civilians - really highlights a survivalist situation! 
2. You are stuck in a barn with a rake, 4 cats, 1 dairy cow, some rope, a chain saw and a flame thrower. Zombies start to crawl out of a hole in the floor and lurch towards you. You have 10 seconds to save yourself. What do you do? Its a good position if they are coming out of a hole because you can sort of fight them off one or two at a time. In any case, chainsaw is definitely weapon of choice! 
3. Do you think zombies are the new vampires? I think Zombies are definitely growing in popularity - probably because they resemble something that could potentially occur - a virus escapes and people run around like they have rabies! 
4. When are you at your most zombie-like? Most Zombie like - 2-4 am! not really sure whats going on in the morning - in quite a daze haha
5. Who would make the best celebrity zombie? Best celebrity zombie.. Javier Bardem

Daniel R (Year 11) takes on the undead!

1. What is your favourite zombie film/movie/comic/book: 'Zombieland' for the movie and 'The Enemy' for the book

You have 10 seconds to save yourself. What do you do? Fire the flamethrower at them, throw the cats at their faces as a distraction, grab the chainsaw and rope and ride the trusty dairy cow away.
3. Do you think zombies are the new vampires? No. Why? Because zombies want brains, not blood.
4. When are you at your most zombie-like? When I'm supposed to be studying.
5. Who would make the best celebrity zombie? Johnny Depp because of his drunk Jack Sparrow-like walk (can look like a zombie).

Do not read before bedtime!

So in preparation for all things zombie I have been reading some modern day genre classics. This is one of them. I hate World War Z. It fills me with dread every time I open its pages. It calls to me from by bedside table...."Read me, read my believable pages. Put yourself in the not to distant future, when the zombie apocalypse has been and gone and all that is left is the tormented accounts of the survivors".   See there is an up side,  there are survivors.

OK. So I'm actually really enjoying this, I just think my timing of reading it before bed is more than a little off.

The movie is coming out later this year and since the book is rather disjointed and told in documentary interview style I think it could be fantastic or blah, depending on how Hollywood treat it.

Anyway, if you are normally into non-fiction war memoirs, you should enjoy this. The "survivors" accounts are gritty and the Brook's descriptive style is is powerful to the point of nausea inducing.

The Zombie's are coming!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, for Youth Week this year Narellan Library forecourt will be transformed into ...The Narellan Zombie Apocalypse! Saturday 13 April we will be having a a Zombie Walk (and picnic!, because even the undead need to eat!). We will also be running film workshops, makeup workshops and challenges where you can win prizes!!!
